We get many compliments when we install data closets for our customers. We make sure they are tidy, organized and well labeled. When we work on projects for our customers, we are often updating connections in existing data closets. Even if our work does not require us to work in data closets, our customers point out the disarray and request our services to bring some order to the chaos.

Like in any messy closet, things are harder to find, but a disorderly data closet can waste time and slow down productivity in the workplace. If the cabling isn’t properly labeled and is tangled up and hard to trace, then, when an issue arises or a repair is needed, IT or others require more time to pinpoint what the issue is and spend more time getting it fixed. If switches and cables are improperly labeled or not labeled at all, there is a risk of disconnecting something entirely unrelated to the issue and causing another issue – and another hit to productivity.

The photos here are from a data room that we organized for one of our customers. They sheepishly showed us their data racks; they knew they were in need of attention, but didn’t know quite how to address it. They knew that getting their data closet shipshape was in KTS’ wheelhouse, so they asked us to tackle it. You can see the results. Read the case study here.
