North Shore Electronics Manufacturer Calls on KTS to Perform a Proactive Upgrade

The Situation

A North Shore electronics component manufacturer was planning a wireless refresh for their facility to update existing wireless access points and add additional ones. They wanted to proactively upgrade rather than waiting for issues to arise. KTS was engaged to do the work.

The Work

The first part of KTS’s work involved running cabling and replacing some access points while adding new wireless access points. Then, they tested the system to ensure all access points were up and running and that all areas of the building were receiving a signal.

The firm’s IT contractor was impressed with KTS, noting their expertise and efficiency in getting the job done. They asked KTS to stay on and complete additional work.

This additional work included upgrading their fiber optic backbone from OM 1 cabling to multimode OM 4 cabling. KTS ran the cabling from the main data closet on the second floor to a new data closet that KTS built for the company – also on the second floor – and also ran new cabling from the main data closet on the second floor to two additional, existing data closets, on the first floor.

Challenges

KTS was working in the facility during business hours, so they had the challenge of navigating around cubicles and people. KTS performed their work without disrupting the day-to-day work of the employees.

Benefits/Impact

Improved and expanded wireless access allows reliable wireless signals and better communication in all areas of the building; upgraded backbone cabling running between the data closets gives the company greater bandwidth which improves their overall productivity.

The company was pleased with the work KTS did as well as their ability to accomplish it without disrupting operations. Their IT contractor was thrilled to have secured a reliable, proven resource.
