The Client

A multi-national supplier of healthcare products with a private data center that needed new fiber-optic cabling installed.

The Work

A multi-national supplier of healthcare products has a private data center in the greater Boston area. The data center needed an upgrade to its communications backbone. They reached out to KTS to replace their fiber optic cabling to meet increasing demands on the system. KTS recommended using the Base 8-MTP Corning fiber system. The Corning system is a good fit for this data center because the system is expandable and can scale and grow quickly to meet ever-increasing demand. KTS is a Corning Network Preferred Installer and worked closely with Corning to assess the client’s needs.

KTS designed, installed, labelled, tested and certified the new fiber optic cabling. This project included using the new Corning Swivel Patch Cord, an excellent new product.

Challenges

At the same time that KTS was installing the new fiber optic cabling, the company was also upgrading their electronics. All the data was temporarily rerouted to another data center while the KTS team installed the new cable and the in-house team installed the new electronics. We coordinated with the client’s team to swiftly and smoothly ensure that data only had to be rerouted for a minimal amount of time.

Benefits/Impact

The data center has increased speed and bandwidth and will be able to scale to support the growing data needs of the company, supporting multiple sites with data consolidated in this data center.
