Boston Technology Company Connects with KTS for Wiring and Sound-masking System in a New Space
Customer: Boston Technology Company
Location: Boston, MA
Technology: Network Cabling | A/V
Sector: Commercial
The Situation
A Boston technology company, focused on alternative energy for industrial applications, was building a new work space. They needed structured cabling installed and wanted a sound masking system for the office area. The construction company building out the space, A&M Construction, recommended KTS as their go-to for cabling and A/V solutions.
The Work
Part I Cabling:
The centerpiece of the new space was an 18-foot-high kiln which takes up two floors. KTS mapped out the cabling in conjunction with the IT department. KTS’s work included cabling to connect the kiln, the office area and the supporting workstations in the space.
The tech company was unfamiliar with local security companies, so they consulted with KTS who recommended a reliable partner for ongoing security monitoring. KTS worked closely with that security company, performing the wiring and installation of the cameras and the card access readers.
KTS technicians built out the data closet which houses 50-60 cables which are all logically installed, clearly labeled and mapped so that future adjustments and changes in the closet are straightforward, leaving no guesswork and minimizing any down time.
Part II Sound Masking System:
Once the initial cabling work was completed, KTS turned their attention to the office area. This space was open, furnished with cubicles and tables, so the management wanted a sound masking system to enable privacy and productivity. The system that KTS recommended uses four different frequencies that cycle through the 40 emitters placed around the office area. This cycling system improves the masking so conversations are unintelligible and don’t disturb others. There are also a couple of “telephone booths” that are strategically positioned with the sound-masking emitters to allow greater privacy on a call. KTS wired and installed the emitters throughout the workspace
Challenges
The challenge in this work was the giant kiln in the middle of the space. It needed to be wired and connected. Using lifts, KTS pulled the cabling over the kiln and connected it. They also had to ensure that the cabling they installed was heat resistant so it can withstand the high heat emitted by the kiln.
Benefits/Impact
With the work completed the company had a new, larger space in which to continue to research and innovate their products. Their entire team has new space with thoughtfully-planned privacy by means of a sound masking system that makes it easier to focus.
