The Situation

A cutting-edge life sciences company located in Cambridge, MA took advantage of KTS’ 30-day bi-directional amplifier (BDA) trial offer. A BDA improves cellular reception in buildings with poor cell reception. KTS offers a no-risk, 30-day trial to allow customers to see for themselves how their cell reception can be improved.

The Work

The company is located on the 3^rd and 4^th floors of a building, with ongoing construction to expand to the 5^th floor. The company had poor cell reception throughout, but chose to focus the BDA trial on an area of the 3^rd floor that had no reliable cell service.

After 30 days, the company was so pleased with the improved cell coverage, that they opted to keep the BDA, and had KTS expand the coverage to the 4^th floor and the small portion of the 5^th floor that was already occupied by the company. When construction is completed on the 5^th floor, KTS will return to expand the coverage across the entire floor. As a result of the positive 30-day trial offer, the company hired KTS to install a BDA in their Watertown, MA location which was plagued with poor cellular reception, dramatically improving the location’s connectivity.

Challenges

At the Cambridge location the cabling needed to be snaked from the roof through a penthouse and down to the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th floors. The KTS technicians needed to ensure that the signal would remain strong despite the distance from the antenna located on the roof. Testing proved that the signal was solid all the way to the 3^rd floor ensuring reliable cell reception.

Benefits/Impact

The BDAs provided both business locations with significantly improved cellular reception and, as the company continues its physical expansion, plans are already underway to include BDAs on the remaining floors of the building. This improved cellular service will provide the life science company with improved productivity and safety for all its employees and visitors.
